Below is the latest email message from Junko Kajino (filmmaker with Ed M. Koziarski for "Uncanny Terrain") who is currently in Japan helping the organic farmers in and near Fukushima.

Hi Phiya, How are you doing?

We shot "clean-up radiations" from organic farm yesterday with several professors and volunteers. It was extremely hard work and very difficult. There are many "clean-up" projects are going on in fukushima right now. I think the way to save the farm and land that are contaminated is this "clean-up" right now. It reduce radiations 50 to 60%, but they have to really remove the soil and trees and everything contaminated heavily. But, it does remove radiation from the land. The farmers are desperate to remove and reduce radiations from the land right now. If you can help from this angle, it will be tremendous support for farmers. While the professors are doing this, several farmers stopped by and asked them to do same thing to their land too. But it is really hard to clean up all the contaminated land in Fukushima.

And a lot of organic farmers want to know how much their crops are contaminated, they want to measure and if it high, they would not sale, but if it low enough, tell their potential customers the radiation level in their crops honestly and let the customer judge. This is sad things to do, but that Japan are facing right now. We need Becquerel monitor in every farm community in Fukushima. If SOS-EARTH try to raise money for them to purchase this monitor, that will change so much their situations.
Also, there are a few Fukushima organic food and products that are need to be known in the world before going away, or disappear, and some Fukushima organic food that are trying to survive, they really need help. I will get the products information, so if you can introduced them to SOS-EARTH.org. that will be great help to organic farmer in Fukushima too.
